I had the opportunity to meet Tolu through my husband some months ago, we never talked after i met her lol, and then he later told me she was a fitness junkie……..what? and you are just telling me?? Lol that was my reaction. I saw her again at a church and immediately, we exchanged contacts and started chatting fitness lol. Yep she loveeeees working out too so read on!
Hi, so tell us about yourself?
My name is Tolu Amele I enjoy long walks on the beach, movies under the stars, reading in the garden, and candlelit dinners. Just kidding! Truth is…I am a follower of Christ, his biggest fan, an engineer by trade and a fitness junkie by choice. I am a daughter, sister, aunt, and friend…sometimes all at once 🙂
How did you get into working out?
Track and field was my competitive sport of choice and addiction for 11 years and in the midst of that I played volleyball and basketball for “fun”
Bottom line is I enjoy staying active. Now that my T&F is part of my past, I look for activities and work outs that will give me that same adrenaline boost.
What motivates you?
Saggy thighs! When things that don’t need to “jiggle” start to jiggle then it’s time to hit the gym! All jokes aside what truly motivates me is my constant pursuit of having a balanced life which to me is a combination of doing the things I enjoy (family time, fellowship, insanity work-outs, zumba, hiking) and doing the things I HAVE to do i.e. brush my teeth, take a shower, and work for a living. I find that working out and staying active makes me a happier person and energizes me to do all the other not so fun things in life
What is your favorite workout?
This is an extremely difficult question. If I HAD to choose one I’d say crossfitkickboxingzumba. I am a fan of any workout that has variety…it challenges me and keeps me engaged.
What nutrition advice do you have for people starting their fitness journey?
Ms. Lola you may not like this nutrition advice but I will say it anyway 🙂 Eat what you want! But…in small quantities. You don’t need to eat a full bag of peanut m&m’s or finish a whole slice of red velvet cheescake. Portion control, portion control, portion control! After that just work off all those calories in the gym.
How often do you workout?
I try to workout at least 3 times a week
What is your workout routine like?
My workout routine depends on my flavor of the month. I just ensure that every work out I do is cardio intensive. My motto is “if you don’t sweat you’re not done working out yet.”
Warm up & stretch: 10 min
Cool down: 5 min
How do you set fitness goals and how do you measure your success?
I don’t like the scale because everytime I step on it I never see a number that I like so I measure my success by competing against myself. I time my runs, sprints, hill runs, circuit workouts and I count my reps. I use those results as motivation to do better during my next workout – If I complete a certain workout in more time than I did the last, then that is unacceptable 🙂
Advice to rookies out there
Find an activity you enjoy and build your workout around it. Because a fitness activity works for someone else does not necessarily mean that it is meant for you. If you like to dance, try zumba. If you enjoy chasing after your children, try stepping on a treadmill, if you enjoy getting in fights, kickboxing may be a fantastic release for you. Fall in love with your workout. That is what will keep you motivated to go back then just sit back, and watch the results.
