It’s #FiveMinuteFriday by http://katemotaung.com and today’s word prompt is WANT.
I was reading my Jesus Calling devotion this morning and the topic was “Rest in me, my child” which goes hand in hand with the prompt for this week.
Many times, infact all the time, we as humans have something we want and when we get it, we want something else. The devotion talked about how we should rest from planning all the time and trying to figure it out but that we should pray to God and let him lead us. When we have “wants” we tend to always try to figure out how to get them. We plan our next steps, who we need to talk to, what we need to do or buy or say. We are always planning right? Have you ever stopped to ask God if you really need that want? or what he really thinks or what he wants you to do? Often times, at least honestly for me, it comes as an after thought. After i have planned and worn myself out with planning then i remember oh let me ask God what he thinks Right?
The devotion also said how constant planning makes us ignore our constant companion who sustains us moment by moment. Ahhhh so true! ever so true!
Pray to God for the strength to be able to rely on him to provide our wants and needs according to his will and also for the grace to lean only on him rather than ourselves or our own wisdom.
Here are some bible verses
Philippians 4:19 ESV
And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Matthew 6:25 ESV
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Psalm 37:4 ESV
Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
