One of my goals for this year is to travel more, Go Out More Often and experience life more as opposed to spending money on accessories and things like that. I was introduced by Eventbrite to the GOMO campaign which is about Going Out More Often. We live in a FOMO world, a world of fear of missing out. Everyone posts about their glamorous lives on social media and then you feel bad about not being a part of it or having a similar experience. Having the FOMO mindset can be very disabling because it causes you to compare your life to others, forgetting that people only post what they want you to see on social media. Especially as mothers, you are so involved in so many things, work, family, kids, so many things in all directions and then you look out to social media and see everyone else besides you doing fun things you wish you could be doing right now. I love this GOMO idea by Eventbrite because it forces us to look at our lives and go out more often rather than d in the affairs and works of life all day. The GOMO campaign also makes you focus on experiences rather than things. So instead of spending your money on new items, why not spend on an experience like going salsa dancing?
For those who do not know Eventbrite, they are probably the most popular event site there is. You can find events, rsvp and pay for the tickets on there. You can create your own events as well.
As an introvert (although come people do not seem to agree that I am), I prefer to stay indoors and read a book or watch tv or blog, so this won’t be very easy for me to do lol. However, I have also noticed I tend to thrive more outdoors especially when the sun is out. Call me crazy, but it just does something to elevate my mood.
Ways I plan to GOMO this summer
Skydiving for our anniversary
This is something I and hubby have always wanted to do and what better time than for our anniversary. For me, it’s a way to leap out of my fears and into the purpose God has created us for lol. I bought a ticket once in 2012 and couldn’t find anyone brave enough to go with me. I eventually had to call them for a refund because what fun is it if I am going alone right? Don’t get me wrong, I am totally scared of this but I plan to tell the person jumping with me to just push me out of the plane if I at any point want to call it quits
Eat at ShakeShack
There is one in Baltimore with crazy lines and hence why I have never been there but I hear their burgers and shakes are to die for. I might just have to sacrifice a few hours one day to wait in line for it. One would think cause I am into fitness, I would stay away from it but far from that, i love milkshakes like crazy! Burgers, not so much, it really depends on how great they are but I do not mind the calories from a great burger and milkshake.
Baltimore Running Festival
I plan to run the full marathon in October. Currently, i am training for the full marathon, although training has been kinda up and down thanks to my lil daughter. In 2013, I ran a half marathon and felt so accomplished like I could conquer the world. Since then, it has been my mission to do a full one. It’s 26.2 miles long and I hear there are a couple of hills in this race. Running has a way of clearing my head and with a marathon, haha maybe I might be able to ponder on my entire life by the time I am done with it.
Go for a pole dancing class
I took a pole dancing class at Xpose Fitness in 2013 and enjoyed it but I have always wanted to go back again. I actually bought a package for 3 months but never went to redeem it.
I and hubby try to travel out of the country at least once a year, this year we plan to make it two yay. We have not decided yet, but hopefully, we would be traveling somewhere fun this summer. We went to Valencia in March for my cousin’s wedding. You can read bout it here
Hot yoga Class
I do not like yoga, to be honest, and then doing it in a hot room? I am really not too sure about this, but anything fitness always gets me crazy so I really want to try this out.
Start a Garden
I plan to work on our front porch this year. I have never done anything garden related. In fact, I do not like receiving flowers as gifts because I do not have time to water and care for them. But something about that front porch and seeing my neighbors work on theirs just screams exciting. I got my friend to give me some tips on how to get started. You should have heard some ridiculous questions I asked her, she could tell I was totally clueless and suggested I get someone to do it instead. But what’s the worst that would happen? I destroy the entire thing and eventually have to call a professional right? At least I know I attempted it.
How to GOMO
Learn to say YES:
I plan to say yes to opportunities that come my way to go out and have fun rather than always declining with some excuse unless it’s a real excuse lol. I do not mean saying yes to every single thing cause then you will burn out completely. Learn to say yes to experiences that will inspire and excite you
Often times, I love to plan outings, I usually want to know days in advance so I can prepare mentally and stack up my socializing energy to a maximum lol. But this year, I want to be a bit random and impulsive by jumping on last minute offers or making last minute fun plans. let’s see how long my energy tank can last. I am learning that not I do not need to perfectly plan out everything in life. In fact, some of the best moments I have had were impromptu.
I have seen this often about going out once in a while on a date with yourself and honestly, sometimes it seems silly but I think it can be fun. I love spending time with myself, I enjoy conversations with myself as crazy as that sounds. Often times, I may not have someone to go somewhere with but I will love to try going out to eat at a restaurant alone and see what it’s like.
Make new friends:
If you do not have friends that want to go out and have fun, then its time to make some new friends to hang with. Find new places to go to and make new friends, sometimes you need a new set of friends for new life experiences.
What are some ways you plan to GOMO in 2017???
