Side note: i do not consider it a vacation till i have left the country lolll. Anything in the same country to me is just a trip but not a vacation. Plus even when i need a break, i need to be miles away from home, away from anything familiar. Am i the only one that thinks this way? Anyway, i love traveling, but one thing i struggle with is how to stay healthy while on vacation. This is because, my entire routine changes, most times i cannot cook my own meals or its an unfamiliar area. Hence, i need to make new changes and adapt. One important tip to staying healthy while on vacation is taking care of your digestive system. One thing with traveling and vacations is it could mess up your system with all the different foods you eat. It’s therefore vital to have multivitamins on hand. Try taking some probiotics before and during the trip to give your body some good bacteria and build your gut health. There are several options you could try such as Nature made brands. Also, take some vitamin C to help support your immune system.
Healthy snacks to go
I love having snacks on me, i always have a snack in my bag wherever i go. Healthy snacks are a great option when traveling because it gives you something quick to eat when hungry. Whenever i am hungry and have no snacks on me, i tend to eat junk food.
Workout while on vacation
Being on vacation is no reason for you to be unhealthy or stop working out. Granted, it may not be as convenient as your usual place. But most hotels have gyms where you can workout for a few minutes each day, or a swimming pool or something. You could also take walks around, cycle or find simple ways to stay active. Maybe even pack a resistance band or some light gym equipment to help you out. Stretch before you go out especially on long walks. Take the stairs whenever you can. Staying hydrated while on vacation is key, especially if you are in a hot and humid area. Sometimes, thirst can mask itself as hunger and then you eat junk when your body really wants water. Always have a bottle of water with you wherever you go unless you have access to tons of water fountains. Regarding water fountains, be careful, i usually just prefer bottled water to these. I make sure we buy several bottles of water for our hotel when we travel cause hotel water is so expensive lol.
A great skin care tip while on vacation is to take your own skincare products. I would hate for you to go on vacation and have a bad reaction to one of their products.Take great care of your skin especially depending on the weather. Take some sunscreen along with you and stay moisturized. Hydration also plays a key role in skincare, so get your water in! Give yourself some love by getting a massage and a spa date while on vacation. Also, take insect repellent with you especially when outdoors.
Prayer plays a huge role in traveling safely. Whenever i am traveling, i ensure we pray first and commit the entire trip to God’s hands. You never want to be in the right place at the wrong time. Think about people who went on vacations and then a hurricane happened or flood or something terrible. Prayer is key, Commit your ways to God’s hands and he will guide your footsteps.
Sleep can be hard when on vacation because if you are like me, you want to soak up everything you can. However, try to get some sleep. It’s not fun coming back from a vacation exhausted lol. Especially when there are time differences, try to balance it out so you are not sleep deprived.
Practice good hygiene even on vacation. Stay away from germs or minimize them. Always have hand sanitizer with you and use wipes when possible. Wash your hands before eating or touching yourself.
Again, you do not have to do it all in one day. Spread out your activities so you get the best of what you can. I am speaking to myself here as well, sometimes i plan out so much and get exhausted towards the end. Then i end up canceling things or not enjoying the rest.

Load up on healthy fruits and vegetables, lean proteins and healthy carbs and fats. Cut down on alcohol, sweet drinks, and sugary items. These will only make you tired throughout your trip and mess up with your digestive system. Whenever you can, cook your own meals. I usually try to stay away from meat while on vacation and even in general. It gives me this super bloated feeling all day.
Maybe its the pharmacist in me, but i always have a first aid kit with me. I stuck up on items for constipation, diarrhea, upset stomach, headache, cold etc. You name it. I always want to be prepared. You never know what you could get hit with while on vacation and having to run around for medicine can be annoying. I remember when we went to Spain, we needed a medication but could not speak Spanish fluently, we ended up searching and searching so many stores for an item we could probably have found easily if not for the language barrier.
Resist the urge to splurge
Yes, you are on vacation and should enjoy yourself. But that is not a reason to constantly splurge. This usually happens when we eat out on vacations, we tend to eat the entire large portions plus appetizers and desserts. There is no reason to do this every day. Seek the healthy options on the menu and also find ways to make your meals healthier.
