Twin diaper bag essentials for going out
Did you just find out you are expecting twins? Congratulations! Going out with two babies can be tough especially when it comes to remembering what to pack in their diaper bags. Packing for twins means nearly double the supplies for your diaper bag.
The day of your outing is not the day to pack your diaper bag. Hence I have put together my list of diaper bag essentials for twins to help you out because when you are pregnant with twins, diaper bag is one of the ways to prepare for your twins. Some are a must while some are optional.
It’s also important to keep things organized and know where things are in the diaper bag so you aren’t frantically searching when you are out. A backpack diaper bag is highly recommended for twins so you can have both your hands free. I use the Miss Fong diaper bag and it is so amazing, i cant say enough about it. Also, since you are here already, don’t forget to check out my post on the top twin essentials to add to your registry for their first year.
Must haves for twin diaper bag
Diapers
I usually keep about 10 diapers in my diaper bag so at least they both can get 5 changed diapers if we are out. You can calculate this out by having one diaper per child per hour. So if you are out for 4 hours, you need 4 diapers per child, so 8 diapers in total. Better to have more than enough than not having enough.
Change of clothes
I keep one set of clothes for each baby. It’s tight to keep more than one set plus the chances of both of them needing outfit changes is really slim, hopefully i have not jinxed myself.
Wipes
I have a small skip hop wipes container that I fill up regularly with wipes.
Burp cloth
My baby girl usually has spit ups so I need to have burp cloths to catch it and clean her or avoid spills.
Water flask
I recently got a thermal flask to keep some hot water in order to mix their formula when out. I usually prefer to mix it rather than mix the bottle in advance, just incase they end up not needing it.
Insulated bottle bag or bottle warmer
If you use only expressed milk, you will probably need to heat up the milk before leaving and keep in insulated bottle bags. Alternatively, you can use bottle warmers to heat them up when they are ready to eat.
Bibs
Same reason as burp cloths and also to avoid milk dripping on their outfits.

Bottles
I try to keep empty bottles in the diaper bag so I can mix their bottles on the go. Again, with this, calculate how long you are out for and how frequently they eat so you have enough clean bottles. Running out of baby food on the way is a disaster, then add in two babies and thats a whole mess.
Formula packs (if you use formula)
I usually breastfeed or pack my expressed milk but in the event that I don’t have enough or something happens, I make sure my diaper bag has a couple formula sachets in it
Formula container
You can also just pour the formula, (if you use formula) into the formula containers rather than buying the sachets. This is a cheaper way out.

Crazy Questions people ask twin moms
Nipple pad
These are usually in my bra already but I keep a few in the diaper bag incase I leak through the current ones. This hardly ever happens but better to be safe.
Swaddle blanket
These can be used for various reasons while you are out. You can use them to cover your babies, wipe spit ups, cover yourself if you do not have your nursing cover etc.
Nursing cover
You never know when you have to breastfeed outside although with twins it can be tricky breastfeeding outside especially if you have to do both at the same time. I tried it once with the nursing cover and it was quite inconvenient.
Diaper cream
I always want to make sure their butts are moisturized too.
Trash bag
To keep any dirty diapers and spoiled clothes so they do not stain your other things.
Hand sanitizer
It’s important to sanitizer your hands before feeding or if you have just touched something dirty and can’t wash your hands immediately.
Changing pad
Surfaces in public bathrooms can be dirty, its best to have changing pads to put your babies on so they stay clean.
Your own things
I always have my wallet, phone, snacks and keys inside the diaper bag too.
Optional items for twin diaper bag
Thermometer
To check temperatures if you feel that they are warm to touch or if they are sick.
Pacifiers
If your babies love pacifiers you better have them handy or you will be running to the store to buy some lol.
Snacks
Make sure to keep snacks for both yourself and your babies on the go.
Nose Frida
To suck out any boogers from their nose.
Toys
Toys are important to help keep them entertained while you are out.
First aid kit
Keep whatever essential medications they take to avoid having to suddenly run to the shops for certain things.
Extra shirt for yourself
I really should pack this especially since my babies spit up but somehow i do not lol.

Types of Twin diaper bags
With twins, its best to get a backpack diaper bag so you have your hands free for your babies. Its basically function over fashion although the fashion side is tempting lol. Try to get one that has stroller hooks and that do not weigh much when empty. Also make sure they are easy to wipe or throw in the machine incase you get stains on them. Get a bag that has many compartments inside and outside, this will help you stay organized so you are not searching endlessly for things. Make sure it has insulated areas to keep their bottles warm.
