Top Questions people will ask you About Twin pregnancy
These are a few questions or comments you will get once people know you are expecting twins. I personally never got offended with any of them as I had always prayed for twins and was on a natural high since finding out lol. However on twin groups that i am a part of, many people are offended by these questions. It is only natural that when people hear its twins or more than one, they get really curious and want to ask a bunch of questions.
With twins, you get so much more attention. I have quickly gotten used to the fact that when people see a double stroller, they are attracted to it, so i plan some extra time in advance during our store outings or doctor visits. If you are having more than one baby, here are some of the questions you will most likely get asked, so get ready.
Are they natural?
My thing with this question is just the fact that every pregnancy is natural no matter how they happened. But I do understand what their question really is. They want to know if it happened on its own or if we did IVF. Although, there is definitely nothing wrong with doing IVF, ours happened without IVF. You can read our story on how we found out it was twins.
How many weeks are you now?
I guess people ask this due to your tummy size especially if it looks big or it’s smaller than they expect for twins. I got that a lot when I told people I was expecting twins and I was just a few weeks from delivery people were shocked. They expected a bigger tommy size that mine.
Were you shocked to find out it was twins?
People ask this question to feel the excitement and also to hear the story of how we found out. It is just like when women ask other women about their labor and delivery story.
Do you plan to do a vaginal delivery or c-section?
This one caught me by shock the first time someone asked me. I had a few people ask me this. It is probably the shock of it being two babies in there and we already know having one is tough. I just told them whatever method was safest to ensure the health of all of us. Although the thought of c-sections always scared me and recovery for vaginal is easier from what i have heard but at the end of the day, with twin pregnancies, it could go either ways. Plus delivery is typically done in the operating room incase an emergency c-section is needed.
Do you plan to breastfeed?
Having to breastfeed two babies can be fascinating so people tend to ask if you will breastfeed or use formula or both. I always told people i planned to breastfeed but would be okay with whatever the outcome ended up being. In the beginning i ended up supplementing a little with formula due to low supply, but right now i am exclusively breastfeeding.
Will you continue working?
Immediately people heard we were having twins, they asked if i would stop working to take care of them.
What will you do about daycare?
Another popular question i got when i told people i would be going back to work. The cost of daycare is outrageous, so people immediately ask how you plan to afford it especially since in our case we have a toddler currently in daycare.
You look like you are about to pop! When are you due?
With twin pregnancy, one of the things to expect is a larger belly size. I was always measuring four weeks ahead. So when people asked when are you due and i still had a few weeks to go, i usually added that it was twins. Although thankfully my tummy was not too big regardless.
Do twins run in your family?
Again people are just curious to see the chances of you having twins with or without it being in your family. With ours, i do have a set of twins in each generation of my father’s side.
Are they identical?
Ours were fraternal, a boy and a girl. Fraternal twins are the most low risk type of twins. There are two separate eggs that both get fertilized as opposed to identical where you have one egg that was fertilized by the sperm and then split into two eggs. Although, low key a little part of me wished they were identical.
I always wanted twins!
Now I can’t be upset over this lol because this was me for many years. Whenever I saw a twin parent I will go up to them and tell them I always wanted Twins. Some people get offended with this question because they feel the person asking is undermining the work twins involve. But i honestly do not think thats the case. For me, when i said i always wanted twins, i knew it involved a ton of work but still wanted them.
Two for the price of one
I kind of find this one a bit annoying just because it’s really not two for the price of one considering the amount of stress that comes with twin pregnancy and when the twins are born. But again I get what they are trying to say.
My babies are x months apart so I basically have twins and I know how you feel
Okay I know I said none of them about me but this one does. No you don’t know how it feels having two newborns at the same exact time lol. I know yours are close in age, but at least you have one crawling when the other is immobile or one eating solid food while the other is not, the list goes on. But i also understand its all relative for different people at the end of the day.
There you have it, the top questions people may ask you when they find out you are pregnant with twins.
