Twin pregnancy, how we found out.
By now, most of you know we recently had a set of Boy/ Girl twins in October. I will be sharing how we found out we were going to be Twin parents. Now if you know me well or have talked about twins in the past with me, you will know I have wanted twins since forever. Having twins has been a huge prayer point for me and God answered. Sometime last year, I actually featured several moms of multiples on my blog and asked them a series of questions about raising twins or more. I honestly never really believed I would go on to have twins. It was truly a shock of a lifetime and many people that knew I wanted twins thought we did IVF to make it happen.

Previous miscarriage
We previously had a miscarriage in September last year which was really devastating. I had gone in for my first ultrasound appointment and the Dr kept searching and finally told me she could see a sac but could not find a heartbeat, anyway more on that another day.
First ultrasound
I went in for my first ultrasound in March super worried, hubby couldn’t come since he was on a work trip in another state. I had similar symptoms with the past miscarriage so left to me, I was sure that was the case again and prepared myself for the worst. It was a different Dr since my regular OB was on vacation. He kept chatting with myself and the nurse while looking at the ultrasound monitor. All of a sudden, he showed me the ultrasound monitor:
Dr: “do you know what this means?”
He showed me two circles, for some reason, I blanked out and could not process it and said “No”
Dr: There are two babies in there.
I was dead silent for what felt like forever. So many thoughts ran through my head. Then came the fear that the babies were not going to make it because somehow the devil was telling me there was no way God would answer my twins prayer. I eventually tried to act excited but decided not to get my hopes up till the next ultrasound appointment. He showed me the heartbeat but said it was too soon to hear it which only make me more paranoid lol. Twins pregnancy meant i got an automatic ticket to the High risk pregnancy category, uncountable doctor appointments with various doctors, more weight gain etc.
Telling hubby
After the appointment, I texted hubby and sent him the ultrasound picture. He called me back asking if everything was okay and I said yes.
Me: Did you look at the ultrasound picture?
Hubby: Yes, everything looks good right?
Me: Yes, but did you really look at the ultrasound I sent?
Hubby: Yes, what do you mean?
At this point hubby is a bit curious at my persistent ultrasound question, he decides to look again, insert long pause………
Hubby: Wait……….there are two?????
I burst out laughing.
If you know hubby, you know he is a huge financial planner, like we had our future financial plan on lock down for two children. Imagine his shock now that there was going to be three children and not just three, but two at once. He started talking about how we have to save more, find out daycare cost, pay off the house and do this and that while on the phone. I had to ask him to calm down a bit. I honestly believe God gave us these twins to humble us and show us we do not own our lives and can therefore not plan our own future.
We did not tell anyone yet till we got to the safe weeks. It took hubby weeks to get excited about having twins. Initially, I still joke about it with him, but there were periods where he would have random headaches or be really tired and stressed from processing the new reality. I on the other hand was overjoyed.
Twins in the family?
Yep, my dad’s side has a set of twins in each generation.
Praying for twins pre-pregnancy
During our family prayers before pregnancy, I always prayed for twins, and this was hubby’s prayer point before we had our three year old daughter. If we had twins first, we could be done and have just two kids according to him. God had other plans, after my three year old, hubby refused to say Amen to my twin prayers lollll. Whenever I heard a couple had twins, I made sure to tap into the twin anointing by visiting them or hugging them. God must definitely have been tired of hearing this prayer point from me and decided to answer me. But on a serious note, God really answers prayers. Sometime early last year while praying, God gave me two names and i remember wondering what they were for or what they meant but i wrote them down and kept praying the names for the twins.
This was the bible verse i usually used to pray regarding having twins, Matthew 7:7-8 King James Version (KJV)
7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened
Anyway, that’s how we found out we were having twins. We are definitely loving this new season while also lacking a ton of sleep. But would not trade it for anything.
