What does it mean to be a Godly woman? I read a funny post on a friend’s Instagram page and it caught my attention. It basically talked about how kids would ask their moms for every single thing and barely disturb their dads. I guess dad knows a lot but mom knows everything.
After seeing this, i burst out laughing because of how well i could relate to it. I could be sleeping and my daughter will rather wake me up to get her something than ask daddy who is wide awake right next to her. After much thought, i realized how it relates to being a Proverbs 31 woman. Proverbs 31:11 says Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value” As wives, and mothers, our husbands, and children should have full confidence in us and know that they will lack nothing.
I was listening to Heather Lindsey’s message on “What it means to be a Godly woman” and was so blown away! It hit right at home. It really broke down what our roles are as women, single or married.
As women, we should be the gatekeepers of our homes. We need to be able to test and discern every spirit in our homes and around us. We are responsible for guarding the gates of our homes against anything that does not glorify God.
The question you need to ask yourself is, What is the spiritual atmosphere of your home?
Are you testing all the spirits you allow to walk through your doors or do you have it wide open unguarded for everyone to come in? Do your husbands and children know God? Are they living a life of Christ? Do they hunger for more of God?
I remember when my daughter, Demi was born (click HERE for labor story). My mom would tell me “you have to pray for her every day like this”. She would brush her hair forward and say she is brushing out every evil thing, then brush it backward to welcome God’s blessings. I found it funny then and actually still do today but i do it as often as i remember.
What does it mean to be a Godly woman?
Sometime last week, i asked my two-year-old if she would like to pray for us. We usually pray with her in the morning and at bedtime. The bedtime prayers usually go something like this “Thank you Lord for daddy, mommy, demi, aunt, uncle, demi’s shoes, demi’s bed, demi’s teddy etc. So that night she agreed to pray to my surprise lol. She began “thank you for xxxxxxxxxxxx hair, thank you xxxxxxxxxxxxx shoe, thank you xxxxxxxxxxxxx babies.
I was nearly in tears. My daughter can pray, although i could not make out the xxx parts, it was obvious she had the idea right? It basically showed me the power we have as parents in the lives of our children. They are like little sponges ready to soak in everything, hence why we need to be mindful of what they observe.
As parents, not only should we pray with them, we need to live Christ daily. We need to teach them about Christ, take them to church and live Godly lives. There is so much evil in the world and things trying to take us away or distract us from Christ. It is our duty to ensure they grow up to have strong prayer lives. I wrote a post on praying the fruits of the spirit over our children which talks about each of the fruits and some ways to use them to pray.
Proverbs 31:26-28 It talked about how the husband praises her and her children call her blessed. She also teaches them faithful instructions. She watches over the affairs of her family not just physically but spiritually. This is a Godly woman, she is the gatekeeper of her home.
Titus 2 talks about how important it is as women to surround ourselves with Godly women who can teach us to be reverent in the way we live, be self-controlled, pure, busy at home, kind and subject to our husbands. You do not need people who will encourage you to bring your husband down or live a life outside of God. This is why it’s important not to share your problems around. When you have a problem with your husband, take it to God in prayer first. If needed, take it to your spiritual mentors.
As a Godly woman, you need to be discerning and test out all the spirits that come through your door. One thing i do as often as i remember is this, When my daughter gets gifts from people, i pray over them first before she wears or plays with them. If after praying, i do not feel led to give it to her, i discard it immediately. This is not to say they are evil, but they might just not be what God wants her to have.
In the same line, as Godly women, if there is someone hanging around your husband that has ulterior motives or an unclean heart, you need to pray that person out of his life, whether male or female. The company he keeps can make or break his future which in turn will make or break the family. Again, this does not mean just because you do not like the person you chase them away. I am talking about doing things with a discerning spirit. If he is feeling sick, do not just toss it away or hand over pills or call the doctor. PRAY for him and your kids! Speak life unto them! Anoint your family regularly with oil and cover all of your lives with Christ.
2 Timothy 2:2 talks about entrusting the word of God unto others who will, in turn, pass it unto more people. Basically, as mothers, we are to nurture our families and make them disciples of nations.
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 also says we are to teach the word at all times while sitting, standing, sleeping etc. Basically, your life should be a walking bible for them to see.
Recently, i started reading the fruits of the spirit (John 15) and asking God to work on my heart and all areas of my life and he has really been showing me. Our lives need to show the fruits of the spirit daily. We need the fruits of the spirit in order to fulfill our calling as women. In order to grow these fruits, we need to remain and abide in Christ just as the branches remain in the vine tree. The branches cannot bear any fruits outside of the vine tree. Hence, we cannot bear any fruits or do anything outside of Christ.
Our role as mothers is so important to me because we have a role in reducing the rate of immorality, crime, ungodliness, broken homes and so on in the world. We owe it to our children to be Godly women.
We must spend time on our knees in prayer regularly because we cannot do it on our own.
Before any other job, business, etc, our families come first. The way i see it, if i excel in my business, career, life but my family is a wreck, then i have failed my calling because family is my first calling.
What does it mean to be a Godly Woman? What does it mean to you?
