Having a great web hosting can make or break your blog which is why i always recommend Siteground. I used to be with Hostgator and switching to Siteground has made a world of difference. I will be sharing some things to look for when trying to switch hosting plans.
First, what is Web Hosting?
It is an internet hosting service that allows you to have your website available to the world. There are so many different ones such as Hostgator, GoDaddy, Bluehost and so many more. You will need web hosting if you are planning to have your blog on a self-hosted wordpress.org. You can check out this post from an amazing blogger about the benefits of being self-hosted.
Why switching to Siteground was the best decision i made for my blog
When i made the switch to Siteground, i initially was so scared of the stress it may come with. I hate change when it comes to technical things. I am next to clueless about coding and anything that needs extra technical skills lol. So it took me a few months to make the switch due to this fear. However, trust me when i say it was super easy! I mean i was shocked. Although I ran into a little problem during the process, the online chat team got it solved in minutes. Anyway, so what should you look for in web hosting services?
Great support
This like i mentioned earlier is huge for me. This was one area i was a bit frustrated with Hostgator for. Maybe i was just unfortunate, but the chat always took long and so did having to call them. With Siteground on the other hand, i have someone in less than 10 seconds! They are also super friendly and helpful. They have support 24/7.
Loading speed
Maybe its just me or coincidence, but my speed is a lot faster. Plus i have heard from so many great bloggers about how it sped up their blogs so i must not be crazy lol. Fast speed means more page views, subscribers and also more sales. I am not the most patient person, so once a site is slow or has tons of ads, i close it out and move on.

Backups
I am able to backup my blog, although they do have auto-backups i do not have that on my own plan.
Price
The startup price is so cheap at $3.95 per month! They also have different levels so if you have more page views or more needs, you can always get more services added to suit your needs.
Ease of use
Like i mentioned earlier, i am not a technical person, so i need a service that can do the things for me or walk me through them. I also do not want to have to wait long to get something fixed.
Free website transfer
This definitely makes switching easier! I love free.
Downtime issues
This was actually the height of it for me with Hostgator. There was a day i was trying to access my blog for hours and could not. They never informed me or sent an email. I reached out to them and when i eventually got through they explained why and told me it will be back up soon. This was frustrating because since i was not informed, my entire day was wasted because i could not do what i had scheduled to do.
Free SSL certificates
I was able to get this on my blog in as little as 5 minutes, again thanks to their awesome support team.
Those are some of the things i would pay attention to with a web hosting plan before making the switch. So far, i am more than impressed with Siteground and would always recommend it.
