If we are being honest, Motherhood can be such a big role especially in the midst of so much going on in our individual lives. No matter what stage your child is in life, it is a task that goes on forever.
As a mom of three young kids, I await my crown in heaven for motherhood because it is no walk in the park. I feel like I wake up some mornings and have to say a prayer for strength as I walk out of my room lol.
If you have a mother in your life, no matter the relationship, be sure to take a few minutes to use these prayers for your mom.
The bible is full of lots of scriptures regarding motherhood and parents in general. In this post, we will take a look at some of these scriptures and pull out prayers from them.
18 Prayers for Mothers
1. A prayer of Protection
Psalm 23:4
“Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no danger, because you are with me; your rod and your staff, they protect me.”
Discussion
Prayer of protection is so important in your life and in the life of mothers. The enemy is certainly against the unit of family and always looking for ways to destroy it. One way is by taking out mothers, therefore we need to always cover mothers in prayer. Ask God to protect the mothers in your life and surround them no matter where they find themselves. I always use Psalm 91 to pray for protection.
Prayer
Lord, we pray for your arm of protection to be upon our mothers. We ask that you surround them like a shield and watch over them daily. May their going out and coming in be covered by you. No evil eye will see them and no evil hands will touch them. A thousand may fall at their side and ten thousand at their right hand, but none shall come near them. Amen
2. A Prayer for Long Life
Joshua 2:13
“Spare the lives of my father, mother, brothers, and sisters, along with everything they own. Rescue us from death.”
Discussion
Similar to praying for protection for mothers, we also need to pray for long life for them. In order for them to have a long life, we also want to pray that they have fulfilled long lives. It’s one thing to live long with great health and purpose, but it’s another thing to live long without these.
Prayer
Lord, we commit our mothers into your hands. We pray you bless them with long life and prosperity all the days of their lives. May they live in great health and purpose in all they do. May they be forever surrounded by your grace. May their lives never be cut short by the enemy and may you reveal yourself to them and help them to walk in your purpose in order to live their lives full of purpose. Amen
3. A Prayer for Courage
Deuteronomy 31:6
“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”
Discussion
Pray for the mothers in your life to be blessed with Courage, to face every challenge that comes their way, to love others with courageous love, to stand strong in the face of fear.
I think especially for mothers, sometimes with caring for kids, it can be easy to lose your identity and not recognize who you are anymore or what your life is about. This in turn can cause you to lose courage to keep pushing to grow yourself in the purpose that God has called you into.
Prayer
Lord, we pray for courage for mothers all over the world. We pray that you strengthen them in all areas of their lives and fill them with your courage. Remove every form of fear that has held them bound. Every way the enemy has tried to keep them bound, Lord we begin to break such chains and ask that you help them to walk in courage and newness of life. Help them to truly understand that you have not given them the spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind, therefore they can be courageous. Amen
4. A Prayer of Blessing
Genesis 28:14
“Your descendants will become like the dust of the earth; you will spread out to the west, east, north, and south. Every family on earth will be blessed because of you and your descendants.”

Prayers of blessing are important for mothers. You can pray for God to bless them in all areas, bless the works of their hands, bless their marriages, family etc. we can pray for God to continue to make them a source of blessing to everyone they come across.

Lord, we ask that you bless mothers with their heart desires according to your plans for their lives. Make them a continuous source of blessing to everyone they come across. Bless the works of their hands that whatever their hands touch will be blessed. Thank you Lord for blessing us with these mothers, we ask that they will never know any lack and their blessings would be multiplied forever. Amen
5. A Prayer of Peace
Isaiah 26:3
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”

Peace in all areas of life is key to living a life of purpose. When life is full of turmoil or stress, it can be difficult to walk in the purpose God has called us to. Pray for peace that surpasses all human understanding for mothers. Pray that in any way that the mothers in your life are experiencing unrest, that God will begin to surround them with his peace.
Prayer
Lord, we ask that you fill our mothers with your everlasting peace that surpasses all understanding. Help them to walk in your peace knowing that you are with them in every situation they may be facing. Help them to be strengthened and to remember that your grace is always sufficient for them. Amen

Philippians 4:6
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

Mothers are truly a gift from God and a reason to forever be thankful. At all times, we should be thankful to God for the mothers in our lives, for preserving them and for shielding them.
Thank God for all that they are. For some, you might not think there is a reason to thank God for your mother, due to one family issue or the other, but the bible says in all things we give thanks. Thank God for her no matter what she might have done to you.

Lord, we thank you for our mothers, we thank you for protecting and preserving them. We give you all the glory for all they have done in our lives. We thank you for all the wisdom and strength you have bestowed upon them from the moment they were born. Lord, we pray you continue to increase them in all areas and grant them their heart desires according to your plans for their lives. Amen
7. A Prayer for Working Mothers
Proverbs 31: 15-17
“She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants. She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.

Working and raising kids can be a huge task for anyone. These mothers work so hard to ensure like the proverbs 31 woman, that their families are well catered for. They work tirelessly day and night no matter what. Some mothers even work two or more jobs or have businesses or side jobs to cater for their family.
Prayer
Lord, thank you for our working mothers. Thank you Lord for giving them the strength to continue providing for their families like the Proverbs 31 woman. Lord when they are weak, strengthen them, when they feel like they can no longer go on, remind them of your power that is in them. Help them to cast all their burdens unto you in all areas. Give them wisdom and discernment even at work to know right from wrong. Amen
8. A Prayer for stay-at-home Mothers
Proverbs 31:26-28
She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:

Not all mothers work outside the home, some mothers are stay at home moms who have chosen to stay home to raise their children which is such a blessing. Its no easy task staying home all day raising kids and so stay at home mothers need prayers for strength and grace to continue what God has called them to do.
Prayer
Lord, we thank you for our stay at home mothers who have chosen to stay home while raising their kids, we know its not easy being home with kids all day. We pray you continue to give them strength and the grace to carry out this purpose you have given to them. Continue to provide for them that they will know no lack. Grant them all that they need to raise Godly children daily. Amen
9. Prayers for Grieving Mothers
Psalm 34:18
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”

Loss can be such a difficult place to be in and we all probably know mothers that are grieving for one reason or the other. Some mothers have lost pregnancies, lost their babies, lost spouses and so much more. It’s important to always pray over any mother you know that has experienced loss.

Lord, we pray for all the grieving mothers we know, we pray you comfort them through this tough time especially landmark dates like birthdays, anniversaries etc. We ask that you continue to be with them and be their source of peace and joy when all seems dark and lonely. It’s never easy to lose someone but you Lord are the ultimate comforter.
10. Prayer for Single Mothers
Isaiah 58:11
“The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.”
Discussion
For all the single mothers you may know, it’s important to realize they are doing a huge task. Raising kids is a huge thing when both parents are together, imagine if a mother has to do it all by herself. When you think of single mothers, one example in the bible is the Widow of Zarephath whom Elijah asked for food in 1 Kings 17, and she replied “I don’t have any bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little olive oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it—and die.”. She had done all she could to provide for herself and her son and was ready for both of them to die.
Prayer
Lord, we bring all the single mothers we know to you right now. We ask that you Lord strengthen them, we ask that you be their rock, guide them and satisfy them like a well watered garden. We ask that you help them to walk in obedience to your word like the Widow of Zarephath. We pray Lord that you provide for them like you did for the widow. Help them to know they can run to you at all times as you are their source of help in time of need.
11. A Prayer for Women Struggling with Infertility
Hebrews 11:11
“And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise.”
Discussion
Dealing with infertility is a very difficult period in life. Although I personally did not experience it, I have friends and family that went through it and some still going through it. It can be a tough time for even the marriage as they navigate through various decisions regarding fertility. Lift them up in prayer for fruitfulness just like the lord blessed women in the bible that were barren. In the same way, also pray that God uses this time of waiting for his glory because he never wastes any pain.
Some women in the bible that experienced barrenness were Sarah, Rebekah, Rachel, Hannah and the Lord answered their heart cries after a while.
Prayer
Lord, we commit these women into your hands as they desire the gift of children. You said none shall be barren but we shall all be fruitful and multiply. We pray lord that you open up their wombs and remove delay from their lives. Whatever it is that is causing delay, Lord we come against it now. We also pray that in this period of waiting, they will draw near to you as you draw near to them. They will not be so hung up on their desires that they ignore you. We pray you continue to strengthen and comfort them. Amen
12. Prayer for Anxiety
Philippians 4:6–7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Mothers definitely have anxious moments for a variety of reasons. Life as a mom can be overwhelming sometimes which can cause anxiety. As a mom, life gets tough sometimes and all I can do is cry out to God for help. Issues can involve dealing with kids, sick kids, finances, decisions, marriage and so much more. But God has said we should put our burdens unto him, so pray for all the mothers you know, that the Lord will guard their hearts from every anxious thought.
Prayer
Lord, we thank you for our mothers. We bring them before you and pray that you remove every anxious thought in them. In every way they may be feeling overwhelmed, lord let your peace fall upon them. Help them to cast their burdens unto you to carry for them while they walk in your peace. Amen
13. Prayer for Mom To Be
1 Samuel 1:27
For this child I prayed; and the Lord hath given me my petition which I asked of him.
Discussion
Pregnancy is such a beautiful period for everyone. It is also a time the devil could try to attack and thus it’s important to cover all the pregnant women you know in God’s arms. It can also be a tough and stressful time dealing with pregnancy symptoms and hormones and physical changes. If you know any pregnant moms, find ways to help them out by preparing meals or helping with chores.
Prayer
Lord, we commit all the pregnant women into your hands, thank you for this gift of pregnancy you have given to them. Lord, we pray you protect their pregnancies. They will know no loss, no miscarriage, no pregnancy complications or premature labor. Their pregnancies shall go to full term and be smooth and easy. They will not experience pregnancy sorrow. Their deliveries shall be surrounded by you and they will come out with their healthy babies on the day of delivery. Amen
14. Prayer for New Moms
Isaiah 41: 10
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Discussion
Bringing new life is such a testimony for the entire family especially after months of pregnancy or even delay for some families. It’s also a time to pray for the new mom and for all God’s blessings upon her. If you know a new mom, please take out time to visit and help them out.
Take meals, help to clean and care for the baby so they can rest as well. If you are an older or experienced mom, it’s a great time to provide words of advice for them.
Prayer
Lord, we commit all the new moms into your hands, we thank you for this gift of new life you have blessed them with. We pray you give them the strength and wisdom they need to raise this baby into the purpose you created the baby for. Help the mother rest and receive strength from you.
15. A Prayer for Purpose
Proverbs 19:21
“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”

It is so easy to get wrapped up in our own plans that we miss what God wants for us. God has blessed us with these kids to not only raise them but to also achieve the purpose he created us for. It is important to always go back to our creator to make sure we are walking in the path he created for us.
Prayer
Lord, for all the mothers in our lives, we ask that you reveal your plans for their lives. Help them to walk in the realization of your purpose for their lives. May they not miss it while seeking for success or other things of the world. May they not be hindrances to that which you are doing in their lives. May their lives impact others for you and draw others to your kingdom. may they be lights of the world and salts of the earth wherever they find themselves. Amen.
16. A prayer of wisdom
James 1:5
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
Discussion
Pray for God to bless these mothers with the wisdom they need to do life. It can take a lot to raise Godly kids and it requires wisdom to discern between right and wrong especially times when what seems right might not really be the right step or maybe dealing with difficult kids or family situations.
Prayer
Lord, we ask for wisdom that comes from you alone to overflow unto our mothers. Help them to walk in wisdom in all that they do. Your word says if we lack wisdom, we should come to you, ask and you will give us generously. Bless them with wisdom and guide them down the right path. When they do not know the right step to take, surround them with Godly people that can point them in the right direction. Amen.
17. A prayer of health
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.”
Discussion
Without good health, it can be difficult as a mother. Especially if dealing with health crises and issues that require hospitalizations or huge finances.
Prayer
Lord, we commit our mothers into your hands. We pray for those that are facing health challenges, lay your healing hands upon them and restore complete healing unto them. We pray you replace and give them new organs, strengthen their bones and every part of their body. We pray they continue to grow in perfect health lacking nothing. Amen
18. A prayer for friendships
1 Thessalonians 5:11
“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.”

Motherhood can sometimes feel isolating, especially for stay-at-home moms or those with young children. Having friends provides a support system for mothers to share experiences, seek advice, and receive emotional support during challenging times.
Friends can offer valuable perspectives and advice on various aspects of motherhood, such as child-rearing, managing household responsibilities, and balancing work and family life. They may provide insights based on their own experiences or offer different approaches to common challenges.
Prayer
Lord, we pray that you surround our mothers with great Godly friendships that can lead them closer to you. For anyone of them that may be feeling lonely or isolated, we pray you send helpers of destiny to them. Help them to find meaningful and rich friendships and support systems through this phase of their lives. Amen
