Simple fruit of the spirit prayers for your children
Prayer is such an important tool in our lives and that of our children. As parents, we want the best for our children. Helping our children walk in the purpose that God has called them into is one main prayer I believe all parents should have.
Of what use is it if your children are successful but do not have Christ? The fruits of the spirit are Godly traits that we should all desire to have. Praying them over the lives of our children should be no different. I personally want to see my kids chasing after Christ, and that starts from a young age.
Random thought, but have you ever thought about the fact that our children are only really with us for a few years and the rest they spend outside the home or with their spouses? It was mind blowing when it hit me lol. So, we need to make the best use of the few years we have with them by pointing them to Christ.
What are the fruits of the spirit?
“But the fruit of the Spirit is: love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.”
Galatians 5:22.
The fruits of the spirit as mentioned by Paul in Galatians 5 verse 22 are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. In order to get fruits, we need to plant the seeds and then water them regularly. You cannot plant an apple seed, water it regularly and expect it to grow into an orange tree. You need to plant the seeds you desire to see grow.
In other words, as parents, if you desire to have God fearing children, you need to plant seeds of Christ and constantly water and live a lifestyle of Christ for them to see and follow. You cannot only pay attention to their worldly success and expect to rip God fearing children that will be revivals for Christ.
Fruits of the spirit prayer over the lives of your children
Love as a fruit of the spirit
I pray for the spirit of love to overflow in the lives of our children. Help them love themselves and see themselves the way you see them. You created them specially and love them uniquely. Lord, help them understand that they are fearfully and wonderfully made. Help them be patient and kind with others. They will not be envious or boastful or proud.
May they be full of love that it pours out unto others. Help them to not show love only to those that are lovable but also to those that seem undeserving of their love. Teach them to put others first when necessary. They would not be easily angered or upset but will be slow to anger and quick to forgive.
1 Corinthians 13:4-5: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Joy as a fruit of the spirit
Lord, let their hearts be full of Joy unspeakable. Your joy that does not depend on circumstances going on around them. Help them find joy in you and draw their strength from you. No matter what they are going through. Feel their joy tanks so it overflows unto others as well. Help them experience your fullness of joy because we know the world’s joy cannot last.
Philippians 4:4: Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!
Peace as a fruit of the spirit
Lord, I pray for your peace that surpasses all human understanding to come upon them and fill them up. Help them not to be anxious about anything but with prayer and supplication surrender everything they go through into your hands.
Help them to always remember that your yoke is easy, and your burden is light and to trust you in all they go through. Help them go through life with their eyes and heart completely on you and not on the world. Help them not to rely on their skills or on people, but on you completely.
John 14:27: Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

Role of fathers in the lives of their children
Long-suffering as a fruit of the spirit
In a world of constant and immediate gratification, Lord fill them with the gift of long-suffering. Teach them to be patient in all areas of life. Teach them not to rush in life but to wait for your timing. Teach them to live their lives built on you and not on their abilities or thoughts.
They will not take steps without your guidance and approval; they will not rush or try to skip the journey of life. They will patiently go through life as you have planned it for them without trying to add to it or subtract from it. Teach them that in all seasons of life, you are always there with them even when it does not seem like it.
Proverbs 14:29: “Patience leads to abundant understanding, but impatience leads to stupid mistakes.”
Kindness as a fruit of the spirit
Teach our children to be kind to themselves and to others. Feel their lips with words of kindness so they can be kind to others especially those that need a warm touch. Every word that comes out of their mouth shall be filled with life to uplift others. They will not use their lips to pull others down or show pride to others. Their words shall speak life.
Help them to be kind even when others do not deserve it. Help them to serve others, when they see someone in need, help them to be quick to serve them. For instance, let them be those kids that are quick to welcome the new kids at school or the kid that has no friends, the kid sitting lonely in the corner, the kid being bullied.
Ephesians 4:32: “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
Goodness as a fruit of the spirit
Fill them with your goodness so they can be good to others. Similar to kindness, help them to be there for others especially when others are in need.
Galatians 6:9–10: And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
Faithfulness as one of the fruits of the spirit for kids
Teach them to be faithful in all that they do. In all that you have called them to be, help them to be faithful. Help them to trust and have faith in your will. Help them to be steadfast in their walk with you and focus on your leading. Teach them to surrender control over to you no matter how hard it is. Help them to also be faithful to others and to be children of integrity amongst others.
Proverbs 3:3-4: “Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.”
Gentleness as a fruit of the spirit prayer
Fill them with the spirit of gentleness and calmness. In every situation they find themselves, help them to be gentle and calm and free of anger or violence. Help them to seek you first before making decisions especially in moments where anger would automatically set in.
Proverbs 15:4: “A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.”
Self-control as a fruit of the spirit for kids
Teach them to exercise self-control in all that they do. When they pass through temptations, teach them self-control, especially when the devil wants to use their wants and needs against them.
James 1:19-20: 19 My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20 because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.
There you have it! These are some simple prayers you can pray over your children regarding the fruits of the spirit. You can pray these frequently with them while also modeling out the fruits of the spirit to them so they can see Christ in action.
